It's Been Awhile...

As you very well know, it has been some time since my last post. I never intended to neglect my blog, but the inevitable does occur sometimes unexpected. As the days pass, I find myself trying to find the time. As I am sure you all experience on a day to day basis, as our babies grow, our time schedule shifts and you find yourself more and more engulfed in the lives. I guess what I am saying is, the blog is being put on hold because I am just having too much fun being a mom and not having to worry about blogging every day. However short lived it was, this clog did get me through the times of being bored while my baby slept, I can't bare to take any time away from him now. He is so active and I would rather watch and play then steal those moments for my blog. Who knows, we may find as Independence grows, I will have more time to myself, but for now, these moments are too precious.

It's Been a Dry Couple of Weeks

I am just writing to let everyone know that I am still here, just with less enthusiasm. I haven't really been out there cashing in on any great deals lately. Everything just seems overwhelming and my energy level and enthusiasm just hasn't been there. The only great deal I cashed in on this week was one I talked about a couple of weeks ago. I did take my JC Penny $10 coupon and picked up a great pair of shorts and an awesome top for just over $2 out of pocket. Other then that we have just been home enjoying not having to run all over. That is except for the supplies we needed for the Tropical Storm, which was an all day event in itself. But as I always promise, things will pick up soon, hopefully. I have been watching the sites to see what is going on and everyone seems to be in the same rut. With back to school and the summer coming to an end, I think we all just needed a little break!

So I just posted about the Redbox code and when I clicked over to the blog to make sure everything looked OK, I had to laugh out loud. See, I recently added google adsense to the content area of my blog. Don't ask me why, I don't make anything to speak of off of it. I think year to date I have made $.38, HaHa....But I laughed because there was this ridiculous ad with this guy saying "I'm Better than you, I'm rich. You're not." How far from the truth when you come to my blog. The whole reason I write this blog is because I like to share my attempts in finding ways to stretch a dollar, because we are far from rich, except in our lives themselves! Redbox Makes It to Orlando Area!

I have been so jealous of those of you with a Redbox in your area. I hate nothing more then to pay $3.99 to rent a movie. Half the time I end up falling asleep half way through and then we have to return it the next day. Not any more! $1.00 movie rentals sound pretty good to me...And we finally have Redbox's in our area. I signed up online and received my first movie rental free, which was super easy to pick out and return. Best of all, I can now participate in the free rental codes they put out sometimes. I missed yesterday's code, but I will be posting them as they come out from now on. FYI for those of you in St. Cloud, the Redbox is located at Walmart on the grocery side when you first walk in.

Prepping for the Big Party

As many of you know, last week was a slow week for blogging around here. We were all busy prepping for the big day...Addison's 1st Bug Birthday BBQ. Here are some pictures of how everything turned out. We opted to make everything instead of buying generic decorations. We finished all of our bugs, even if they didn't turn out as planned. It worked out perfect. Everything was so adorable and my mother made the perfect Pin the Bug On the Frog's Tongue. Our version of Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Thanks Mom! So, I have to tell you 6 things about me...

1. I can't bare to pay full price for anything. If I don't think it's the best deal, I will search around until I find a better one. The worst part is when I do find a great deal, it upsets me that the people I tell don't take advantage of it, even if it benefits them. Probably the reason I do my blog.

2. I love the challenge of making things myself. If I see something, I try to recreate it so it doesn't cost so much.

3. I love to rearrange our home. I get bored with it easily and hubby and I will spend an entire day figuring out a new way to lay out the living room to make it feel new again.

4. When I find something new, I get obsessed with it. Much like when I decided to be a SAHM, I began to eBay, Blog and figure out how to save money. If you would have seen me a year ago, it was a totally different story.

5. I can put up a good argument. I don't like to be told I am wrong when I know I am right. Sometimes this gets me in trouble. Other times this saves me some money.

6. I wish I were a super organized individual and often get jealous of those who are. I wish I had a place or just even room for everything. I know how much easier life would be if everything were spotless and in it's place!

The Heat is On...

We had a wonderful 5 AM wake up call Sunday morning. I woke up and thought that the house didn't seem so cool. Typical because I always wake up hot in the middle of the night, but the air just seemed very still and stale. I got up to check the thermostat and it was blank. What? Yep, nothing there. I checked the breaker and nothing there so I went back to bed because I couldn't do anything until morning anyway. The next 2 hours wasn't comfortable sleep worrying about it. When I got up I had convinced myself we just needed a new thermostat. It must have went bad so I ran off to Home Depot. In the meantime, hubby went to the neighbors house since he is an air guy. Sure enough, it was more. So bear with me as we get this thing fixed. We spent last night as my in laws and will figure this out ASAP. I will be back to posting within a day.

My Friday Morning Steals

As many of my close friends know and I am sure many of my readers as well, I am not afraid of hand me downs or yard sale shopping. If I can put something to good use, it's new to me. I was so happy I decided to go yard sale shopping Friday morning. To say the least, the heat has been keeping me away (as well as having to take 2 kids), but my mom told me about a few sales with baby clothes. I hit the jackpot! I bought all of this great woman's boys clothes for just $25. That is a fraction of what I would have paid for them. Most are what Addison is going to be needing in the next couple of months and some are what we can use right now. I even received some things to pass along and stuff for my stepson. Too bad we didn't have any girls though. I was at another sale that was flooded with baby girl clothes. I wanted to buy some just so that I could hold on to them. My sis in law finds out next week what she is having and when I say they had tons, they had two six foot tables loaded with pink clothes. But, the better half said I will run into a deal again and hold off until we know what the baby is. Oh well, I may give in tomorrow morning and get a few. We'll see. So long story short, thank you for the great conversation, the information on your successes with Dave Ramsey and the amazing deal on those clothes. We really do appreciate it! And we will put them to good use.

We Got the Freezer!

So I mentioned yesterday that we were going to look at a freezer that was listed on Craigslist. Well, we got it. It's not quite in our possession yet, but we gave the extremely nice woman the deposit and we can pick it up on the 30th! I am so excited. The posting just seemed to good to be true. A used upright for under $200. Now it is gently used and not a crisp, white, prestine freezer, but they have kept in in really great shape and it is ice cold. It seems that she is in the process of moving and having her daughter's birthday so they are working through the food inside of it. But after next weekend, we are good to go! I am so happy and I think this is going to be a huge help with the stockpiling of great deals! Yeah us!

We Are Finally Getting a Freezer!

So, we have been on the hunt for a freezer and I think we have finally found one. I have been wanting a freezer for in the garage for some time now, but I did not want to go out and buy one new. I was being picking and only wanted an upright freezer. The chest freezers just seem like such a hassle and I can envision food making it's way to the bottom and never seeing the light of day again. So, I have been scouring the Craigslist ads and I think we found one. We are going to look at it today and decide. The seller is asking for $100, a new one was looking to cost over $300. I will let you know how it goes! Yeah I am so excited!

Macy's One Day Sale Deals

How many of you made it to the Macy's One Day Sale on Saturday? This is something we never miss around here. I have had many people ask why bother because their prices are so high, but guess what, the sale is just that good. We scored over 22 items, everything from jeans, to dress pants for hubby and new school clothes for my niece and nephews. The retail value of all of these items was $623.97 but we only paid $129.89. That is a $494.05 savings.

When Macy's has the one day sales, they typically have a $10 off $25 purchase coupon in the paper (the previous sale you could even find it online). With this coupon and separating all of your items into purchases for as close to $25 as you can get, you pay around $15 for the transaction. Now, for an even better savings, ONLY shop the clearance rack. I have mentioned this before, if it is not on the clearance rack, we don't buy it. Some of the shirts we bought my nephews we originally $28 marked down to $7 with an additional 50% off making them just $3.50. You can't but nice Polo's for boys at Walmart for that price! Another example were the slacks I bought hubby that were originally $79 marked down to $29 with an additional 50% off making them $14.50.

Now comes the good part. With those slacks and 3 of the boys Polo's and the $10 off $25 coupon, we paid just $15+tax. It was like getting the Polo's for free with the slacks at an amazing discount. This trip however was 90% for the grandkids back to school clothes (my mother went with me) with a few items purchased for ourselves (pants and shirt for hubby, shorts for me and a overall set for Addison).

FYI: Keep an eye out for Dillard's version of this awesome sale. It is much easier as there is no coupon and no exceptions to work around. They will have an additional 40% off all clearance sometime in August with the clearance 50%-75% off. I purchased most of Addison's clothes during this sale before he was even born!

Don't forget to go get your penny items at Staples. Even if you don't need them I am sure someone in your family does. That's what happened with us. Hubby and I went to go pick up supplies for his work the other day and while I was in there I picked up the penny items for my niece and nephews. I know my sister in law could use the help picking them up since she has 3 1/2 kids to load up and I only have 1. So they will be on there way to you guys soon!

It a Start on Gettng a Handle on Our Money

Not really sure where all your funds go at the end of the month? That is where we sometimes stand. So, I am jumping on the bandwagon to get a better hold of things. I did order the Dave Ramsey Total Money Makeover as previously mentioned, but I also checked out the free site, Mint.com. The site allowed me to see all of our finances in one location and review where the money is actually going. I am able to tag items into budget line items and adjust things accordingly. Is it the answer to everything, probably not, but it is a start if you need to start somewhere. I love the feature that emails me as we are approaching low balances or due dates as well as the simple budget it creates based off of your typical monthly spending (this can be a shocker to some). I will admit, though, there are small flaws, such as the inability to force a line item into a different month (i.e. if your mortgage clears the 31st of the previous month it was due). But as I mentioned earlier, it is a start. I think this is going to at least give me a good gauge on where to start our budget and what need to be drastically cut back.

Kayak Can Save You on Travel

Has anyone ever used Kayak before to get deals on travel? This was our first time using the site and I have to admit it worked! My husband travels every couple of months round trip to Colorado and back in one day to pick up his son. As you can imagine, this hurts our piggy bank, especially with airfare going up everyday. I was able to create a Tracker by Email so that the newest rates were sent to me on a daily basis. Also, they have a Chart View that allowed me to see the dip in prices for certain days. On top of all this, you can search the popular travels sites like Priceline, Expedia and Travelocity to name a few. Long story short, I did end up spending less time flipping through sites for the price lists, but still paid more than I would have liked too compared to prices a year ago.

On another note, I will not mention a company name, but Angie at Wylie Mom had a company scold her for teaching her readers to hit the back button and print your second coupon. I made comment on how "They are the ones who set the limit on how many you can print, They should set the limit to what they actually want you to print! More of how people think we are cheating the system by fault of their own!". I will say they did not like my comment and again, somehow we are the crooks! I will stand by my word that we live by the limits of 2 coupons per available printing cycle. We are not breaking their system and finding a way to print additional coupons. You have registered my IP address and therefore, my limit has been reached. How can I cheat that? Thanks Angie for your post and I hope all of you are having better luck on this battle!

I Am Not a Crook Follow Up...Thank You For The Support

Thank you all for the emails of encouragement and support in regards to the posting "I Am Not A Crook!" I will never give up, but I did feel beat down last week. I did want to give everyone a followup to me contacting Target. I have a $3.00 GC coming to me in the mail because they would not take my coupons. I lost $10 in the deal, but I understand each store has the right to limit the number of coupons used by a person. Like I said, I understand, I just don't agree with it. Print it on the coupon if you want to limit them. Don't harass your customers over it! So anyway, I explained that hubby was with me so we had 2 people to do the transactions so I was not taking advantage. She agreed the manager was way out of line. Oh well, $3 is better then nothing, right!

But for now, it is Ta Ta to Target. I hope your customer service doesn't make you lose too any loyal customers! You lost my baby registry and now my grocery shopping...Good Luck!

I am not a Crook!

Wow, what a week. I swear I am not a crook! How many of you can relate to the feeling of being treated like a criminal for using coupons? I mean, I read and I educate myself on what are legitimate coupons and what the fakes are. 90% of my shopping lists are from posts on my favorite blogs so I know what the deal I am getting is. When the Target $25 fake was emailed to me weeks ago, I knew right off it was a fake and didn't even attempt to use it or pass it along. But Saturday was the topper to my week!

Wednesday started off my week of struggles just trying to use regular old newspaper clipped coupons at Walmart. It's routine now that I just ask for a manager to come over when the cashier tells me I can't use my coupons (and this is every time!). They send over the fake manager and I in turn have to tell her to ask the real manager and then I finally get everything to go through. Frustrating yes, but I create my own torture by returning there. I just feel bad for the people behind me. They get so frustrated with me and it is kind of embarrassing.

Then on Thursday, I went to Walgreens to take advantage of the diaper deal. Again, there I was the criminal when the register rang up the $5 off 2 packages and the $2 off 1 package coupons and the manager said no way. After some explaining that I was buying 3 packs and only getting $5 off 2 and $2 off 1 for a total of $7 off he understood that the system was working it out right. That was the 2nd store I went to and the manager from the 1st store called to warn the manager of the 2nd store about me! She swore I was pulling a fast one. The nerve of some people when the system was ringing it up correctly! On top of this they asked just where did I get my three $25 gift cards? Can I say prescription transfers! You did just have the coupon in the paper a few weeks back. I didn't steal them, I promise!

Last, Target was the straw that broke the camels back. I drug my hubby, after our great movie date, to Target to pick up soda for Addison's 1st Birthday party in 3 weeks. Much to his disagreement, he went anyway. He again witnessed that when you use coupons and are more educated about the stores policies and systems then the manager, they proceed to make a scene so the entire store thinks you are trying to rip them off. I was told I was using fraudulent coupons and this was not permitted. The manager flashed the email about the $25 toy coupon and the fake out there. I explained that I knew all about that coupon and that the soda one was legit. We even checked it when we came in that it was displayed in the ad window because hubby hates to go through this ordeal time and time again with me. In front of the whole front desk area she was yelling at me and making a scene about it. Hubby came to my defense when she tried to tell me that someone has hacked into Targets computer system and creating fraud coupons so they no longer accept any coupons. Wow, she really just skimmed that email when she got it, huh.

So, very long story short, I am exhausted and completely frustrated now. I explained to the sweet teenage cashier at Walgreens that I will most likely not be back and that she should transfer to CVS. Walmart I have a feeling, is going to be a constant battle because when I finished my transaction, I went over to the manager's desk to thank her and hope that she could explain coupon policies to the cashiers, but she had already fled for a smoke break. As for Target, I will call corporate in the morning and let you know how it goes. I am expecting not too well though as past experiences with their policies tell me they don't really care what the customer thinks. So much for Service with a Smile!

I swear though, I am not a crook!

I have been venturing out on my savings tactics and trying now to majorly cut my grocery bill. After reading many of the blogs out there I have decided that 1st, I need a separate freezer so I don't have to make so many trips to the stores and stock up while the savings are good, and 2nd, I need to make sure I take advantage of the competitor coupons available to me. For example, on my last trip to Winn-Dixie I received 2 $10 off $40 coupons but knew I would only be back to Winn-Dixie in time to use one. However, I was planning a trip to Publix today to pick up several items on the BOGO sale list as well as things I had coupons for. While I was there I had my trusty coupon box and I pulled out the Winn-Dixie coupon I had extra. That was an additional $10 savings added to the great deals I was already getting. Wow! I love saving money! I guess my Publix boycott is over for the time being since my coupons all worked this time and my transaction went smoothly. I even had the older gentleman behind me ask how I was able to save so much. This is really catching on!

So, you want to know my other addiction? eBay...That's right, eBay. I have been slacking on it for about 2 months now but I am slowing getting back into the groove. When I found myself as a new SAHM, I needed a way to feel like I was contributing to our income since my little blog doesn't bring much (or any) sort of income. Don't get me wrong, I did not start blogging for income, I eBayed for income. Then I found the world of blogging. It used to be I sat on the phone everyday with my sis in law and we would plot our attack. What can we make money on this week. Then when she wasn't home, I started researchoing how to save more. That is how I found the bogs on frugality and decided to start my own to share what I found with friends. Now it is time to get back to my only source of bringing home some bacon.

Having my adorable son has proven to me that I will not get back into that size 2 pair of Lucky's (Not even the 4's I must add) or have a use for the work attire (doesn't go well with baby food fling fest) so, I decided to eBay what I no longer needed. By the time I would need it again, the clothes would either be outdated or I would just plain want new. So far this year I have made over $1200 on things around the house that most likely haven't seen the light of day in almost 2 years. I have also purchased things at the store that I knew was a too good to be true deal and turned around and sold them on eBay only to profit. I did this with a phone I received for my new every 2. My phone still worked perfect, but I was up for a new one for free with my contract. I researched which one was selling the best on eBay, ordered it, activated it when it got here, deactivated it a day later and sold it for $300 in 20 minutes on eBay.

So I am now back in action on auctions and will see how this takes me and my blog. I will keep you up to date on my totals, or you can check out my items.

We're Having a Party!

I am even humming the tune in my head as I write this. This is the first in a series leading up to Addison's 1st Birthday Party! I can't believe we are almost there.....But we'll touch on that when it actually gets here....

What I am trying to do is save money on decorations but I want to still feel like we are having a custom 1st birthday. For those of you who don't know me, I am a recent Interior Design graduate (B.A. Yeah!) and I can't let a party go by with out those special touches. So for the theme, we decided on a Bug Birthday for our little Boog Boog (Hubby's nickname from birth for Addison). How appropriate, right? This guy was my inspiration picture for some table decorations...

And here is the start of the Ant as well as a couple of other bugs I have in mind....

I covered Styrofoam balls with Crayola Air Dry Clay (though I had to fill all the cracks in after it dried with Spackle) and also cut circle foam disks in half, carved a dome (example on the Spackle bucket) and then covered those with clay as well. This process made the clay extend longer then if I made the whole thing out of clay. After they dry I will be painting them in bug patterns. The center one that my mother things looks like a bunny will be a Lady Bug (I kept the solid foam disk and just shaped it a little) and the domes will be slugs or snails. I decided on clay because I want these to also weigh down the traditional red and white tablecloth so it is multifunctional! We'll see how this one turns out. Will keep you posted!

For months now I have become more and more of an addict to the CVS Drugstore Game, but as the ease of locating coupons and lack there of on coupons printing at the register, I am finding myself getting more of an avid saver at some new stores. For one, WalMart. I was the one who HATED WalMart, but I will have to say that is changing quickly! Last week I pulled up the Grocery Gathering for WalMart and decided to give it a whirl. I walked out of the store with a basket of groceries for just over $30. My total bill was a little under $60, but I also picked up the hubby his Father's Day gift from the boys. I have to say, I don't mind the crowds when I am saving that much! What about any of you? Where are you finding yourself shopping now that you are a true saving addict? Did you ever think your grocery shopping would consist of swinging by Walgreen's for Chex Mix, over to Publix for Taco Mix, across the street to WalMart for tomatoes and then just a quick run to CVS for diapers, toilet paper and paper towels. Remember the days of just one store, just one trip. I will never go back knowing what I know now! Thank god the stores are all within a mile or two of one another!

I had a chance to test out this product through Bzz Agents and I can't say enough good things about it! The new Oust Surface and Air Sanitizer is Awesome! I can not STAND air fresheners...They are perfumed, digustingness. As someone who suffers from migraines, I can't stand smelly stuff, but the blue can (Clean Scent) smells like fresh, clean laundry! I spray it sometimes to just make it feel like I was cleaning! HaHa...But seriously, it eliminates the odors, not just covers them up. This is especially great when you are changing those nasty diapers than seem to linger there smell. Check it out here for a BOGO coupon...You will LOVE it! It Pays to Complain...

Now I am NOT telling to you to out and complain to every company out there, but if you are unsatisfied with something, it just may pay. For example, I purchased Just for Baby Diapers from Babies R' Us for my son during Black Friday. We stocked up because we had already been using them and loved them. The only problem came when we hit size 3. Size 3 and up have extender tabs on the sides of the diapers. Once you opened and pulled the diaper taught, the tab pulled off. So, I called the number on the box to ask about this and complain because I was so happy with the diapers up until now. Well, my refund check arrived today for $43.98 the price of 2 boxes. All I have to do is mail in 1 of each from the 2 boxes I had opened (I have returned the unopened boxes to the store). Talk about good customer service! And I only paid $10 per box on Black Friday so that is a 23.98 profit! Thanks!

I am curious as to how many of you out there will be using the BOGO coupons at the upcoming Publix BOGO sale. As in my earlier blog, I stated that I will be cutting out Publix for awhile. I see that they have checked out what I have written so I am sure they are well aware as to why I am phasing them out for the time being. But as I sat watching the Boob Tube, I saw the commercial for the upcoming sale and want to know the successes you have with coupons during your visit. Again, solely because we have coupon Nazi's at our store and do not have the same saving success as many of you do. Thank for the info and good luck with the sale! AND REMEMBER....you can usually print at least 2 coupons by using your back button once the first one is printed. You may have to hit it a few times but it will tell you coupon printing. If you try a 3rd time, it should let you know if you reached your limit or not. So print away!

Viruses, Bugs and Spyware...Oh My...

I have been dealing with a down PC for about 2 weeks now and working on my husband's Mac. Unfortunately, Macs are not very compatible with coupon printing. I thought yesterday I had my glorious PC back only to find out that it was not fixed properly. Now tell me how you can pay someone to fix your computer and them NOT return it to you in working condition yet charge you for it being fixed. Just annoying! So we are back on the Mac today and hopefully (with fingers crossed) I will be back full time next week. Until then the postings may be slim picking. But make sure to keep up with the Links I Read Daily on the right. There are still good savings to be had!

No BOGO Internet for Publix...So Sad...I will Cut Back my Publix Shopping!

Shopping there has NOT been a Pleasure...

I am extremely disappointed with my shopping experience in my small town. I have run into problem after problem with just trying to use coupons. I am to no extent as dedicated as some of the bloggers I read about but I am trying to be. Unfortunately, I keep getting shot down. Not only do many cashiers disbelieve you when you are trying to use your coupons, they get annoyed and are down right rude. Remember the days when our mothers used coupons with no problems. At what point did money get so disposable! Well, I have tried to used the BOGO at my Publix like many of you have been doing all across Florida, but I was instructed by a cashier they do not accept BOGO only $$$ Off coupons. I did go to a manager only to be instructed the same. A gracious blogger friend, Jennifer at Eating It Up suggested I contact Corporate and this is my email back:

"Thank you for your email. We appreciate our customers taking the time to contact us. Currently, we do not accept internet coupons that are for buy one get one free or for any free item. We do accept regular coupons that are for free items. We are in the process of reviewing the internet coupon guidelines and we encourage you to continue shopping at Publix."

As I said to them, if other stores are accepting my coupons, I will cut back on my Publix
shopping due to the hassle of sorting coupons just to fit their guidelines. After all, their competitors are accepting them. Thank you Publix for the response, but I think I will be bidding you farewell for now. I hope you sort out your coupon guidelines soon.

Mimi's Cafe is relatively new to our area but we love it in our household. We used to visit more often and if this really works, we will be visiting again real soon! My New Favorite Baby Snack...Baby Mum-Mum

This is just something I wanted to tell people about. I know when you find a new product you love you want to let the world now so I don't know if I just lucked out the day I went to Wal-Mart but I found this new product, Baby Mum-Mum. Can I tell you how much I love these? We have finally reached that age where Addison needs something to snack on himself. I was looking through the typical baby cookies and picked up this box. I think at first just for the name, isn't it fun, but after reading the ingredients, I thought I would give it a shot. Simple ingredients: Japonica Rice, Sugar, Skim Milk Powder and Salt. Of course the other varieties such as the Vegetable and Carrot have some other ingredients(Veggie: Potato Starch, Pumpkin, Carrot, Spinach and Cabbage Powder), but nothing you can't pronounce or recognize! even more, they are...
